SABG-15+ Alpha/Beta/Gamma Probe

Description

The SABG-15+ probe is designed for the measurement of surface contamination. Its good sensitivity makes it ideal to detect alpha, beta and gamma emitters for initial survey applications.

The SABG-15+ is part of CANBERRA's new SMART Probe (CSP™) family. As part of the CSP Family it is compatible with all CSP survey meters.

SABG-15+ includes all key components of hardware circuitry (high voltage power supply, amplifier, discriminator, etc.). Also, the intelligence associated with controlling those components is located in the probe – that is control and storage of key parameters, settings, calibrations, probe ID, alarm settings (10 values for each unit to display with default setting), etc. Thus, the probe is a fully-integrated subsystem communicating the measurement to the instrument.

With high voltage and acquisition of the data occurring in the probe rather than the instrument, measurement quality is no longer dependent on external device quality (cable, host instrument). Moreover, a CSP is using a serial protocol to communicate with the host that can be an instrument or a PC.

Calibration and QA measurements can be performed directly with the probe, without even using an instrument, by connecting the probe to a computer with CANBERRA Smart Probe Software (CSPS™), allowing your instruments to remain deployed in the field.

Once calibrated, SABG-15+ is ready to be used as a 'plug and play' probe to start a QA measurement in c/s, Bq, Bq/cm², CPM, DPM, DPM/100 cm² depending on the connected survey meter. SABG-15+ connects to the CSP survey meter via a 1.5 meter or 20 meter CSP cable.

The SABG-15+ probe is able to store up to 1000 data points from a data logging procedure handled via the host instrument. These data are: index, date/time, measurement value, selected unit and counting time.

SABG-15+ firmware can be upgraded via CSPS, a CSP/USB cable and a PC.

It is a powerful feature for the user to avoid the need to look back on the instrument when changing the mode.

SAB-100 includes a protection grid that is very easy to remove for decontamination purpose. Once this grid is detached, the probe remains operational and the whole assembly stays light tight.

Easy-Count™ Field Smear/Filter Counter

Description

The Easy-Count is a field deployable smear counter for measurement of surface contamination. It is designed to be used with the Colibri survey meter. Its Silicon PIPS detector with 17 cm² detection area makes it an ideal tool for direct measurement of alpha and beta emitters. PIPS technology brings numerous benefits to a field deployable smear counter.

These are:

  • An improved MDA (much lower gamma background compared to other technologies).
  • Very good alpha/beta discrimination.
  • A durable entrance window (not sensitive to pressure). It is also cleanable!

The Easy-Count is an addition to the CANBERRA’s SMART Probe (CSP) family. It includes all key components of hardware circuitry (high voltage power supply, amplifier, discriminator, etc.). Also, the intelligence associated with controlling those components is located in the counter – including control and storage of key parameters, settings, calibrations, device ID, alarm settings (10 values for each unit to display with default setting), etc. Thus the counter is a fully integrated subsystem taking and transmitting the measurement to the instrument, which is used for display.

With high voltage and digitization of the data occurring in the counter, measurement quality is not dependent on external device quality (cable, host instrument). Moreover, a CSP uses a serial protocol to communicate with the host which can be an instrument or a PC.

Calibration and QA measurements can be performed directly with the counter, without even using any instrument, by connecting the Easy-Count to a computer with CANBERRA Smart Probe Software (CSPS™), allowing your instruments to remain deployed in the field.

Once calibrated, Easy-Count is ready to be used as a plug and play “probe” to start a QA measurement in CPM, DPM, DPM/100 cm², c/s, Bqeg, Bqeg/cm². A Colibri easily bracket mounts to the Easy-Count and connects via a coiled cable.

Easy-Count accepts many different sizes of smears and planchets. Smears and planchets are loaded into the counter on a tray that ensures a reproducible geometry. This tray is easily accessible via a front panel rotating door.

SVLD: Very Low Dose Rate Probe

Description

The SVLD probe for measurement of Very Low Dose equivalent rate is designed to be used with CSP™ meters such as Radiagem™, MIP 10 Digital, AVIOR® or Colibri®. Its CsI(Tl) detector with specific energy compensation (patent pending) makes it an ideal tool for differentiating background dose-rate starting from 10 nSv/h. Most portable dose equivalent rate instruments only estimate the background radiation exposure. The SVLD is designed to quickly and accurately measure very low dose equivalent rates near background using a lightweight CSP compatible probe. Unlike heavy and very large probes, the SVLD's small size can be carried easily by a user in the field. The SVLD probe not only measures very low dose-rates but does not saturate up to 1 mSv/h (100 mR/h) covering most daily Health Physics duties.

The SVLD is the perfect choice for dose-rate control at radiation area boundaries and daily dose-rate measurements outside of radiation areas like inter-building paths in public areas. It is also very useful for interdiction situations in crowded areas and can be deployed at gates or pathways – its small size and wireless capability, when coupled with a CSP-COM module, make it the perfect low visibility monitoring device.

Industry and medical users can quickly confirm presence of radioactive sources (medical radionuclides, waste, NORM) and easily set a safety perimeter based on accurate dose-rate measurements.

STTC Wide Range Gamma Probe

Description

The STTC probe is designed for gamma equivalent dose rate measurement. It can be connected to any CSP™ survey meter with the appropriate cable.

For instruments already integrating a compensated Geiger Mueller detector, this probe extends the instrument measurement range and supports remote measurements up to 20 m (65 ft).

The STTC has a compact and robust metal case which includes the Geiger Mueller detector, the high-voltage power supply and the pulse shaping circuits.

The STTC uses the Time-to-Count algorithm from CANBERRA, enabling a unique range of measurement with only one Geiger Mueller detector. Tele-STTC: Wide Range Gamma Telescopic Probe

Description

The compact size, exceptionally light weight, and easy-to-deploy mechanism of the Tele-STTC make this probe an ideal tool for measurement of areas that are difficult to access or require remote measurement high exposure areas.

Tele-STTC supports ALARA principles by allowing the operator to obtain measurements both quickly and at increased distances, due to its maneuverability.

Tele-STTC requires minimal space when packed 95.5 cm (3.13 ft) and the pole can be extended up to 3.3 m (10.9 ft) with secured 1/4 turn rings for each extension segment. The unit is so lightweight that even when unfolded, it doesn't need to be offset, and the pole and meter can be used together even for short range measurements. The meter remains at the user's eye level even when the pole is opened.

A shoulder strap can be used to secure Tele-STTC when used in the open position or simply to keep it attached while being carried.

The unit consists of a detector integrated on a telescopic carbon fiber-based pole on which a meter is attached by a connecting clip. The meter is removable and can therefore be used independently. Tele-STTC can be used with the Radiagem™ or Colibri® personal survey meters, which are not included.

The detector integrated into the Tele-STTC is designed for gamma dose equivalent rate measurement. The Tele-STTC extends the measurement range up to 10 Sv/h (1000 rem) and the distance from the radiation source when used with the Radiagem or Colibri.

The detector is integrated within a compact and robust metal case which includes the Geiger Mueller detector, the high-voltage power supply and the pulse shaping circuits. It uses the time-to-count algorithm from CANBERRA, hence enabling a unique range of measurement with only one Geiger Mueller detector. By using only one detector, the Tele-STTC offers a better angular response than any other probe with an equivalent measurement range and comes in a smaller form factor. The Tele-STTC is able to store up to 1000 data points from a data-logging procedure handled via the host instrument. These data are: index, date/time, measurement value, selected unit and counting time.

The Tele-STTC probe's firmware can be upgraded via CSPS, with the USB – PC cable and a PC. Two meter brackets are provided with the Tele-STTC to allow the attachment of the Radiagem or the Colibri. X-Ray Probe SX-2R

Description

The SX-2R probe for measurement of leakage and surface contamination is designed to be used with any CSP survey meter. Its 1.5" NaI(Tl) detector with 3 mm thickness and Beryllium window makes it an ideal tool for direct measurement of x-ray emitters. SX-2R is a probe of choice for Homeland Security application since it is able to detect most contaminations (including alpha and beta) based on x-ray emission. It is also very useful for precise X-ray leakage monitoring on accelerators, X-ray generators and containers.

SX-2R is part of CANBERRA's new SMART Probe (CSP™) family. It includes all key components of hardware circuitry (high voltage power supply, amplifier, discriminator, etc.). Also, the intelligence associated with controlling those components is located in the probe - that is control and storage of key parameters, settings, calibrations, probe ID, alarm settings (10 values for each unit to display with default setting), etc. Thus the probe is a fully integrated subsystem taking and transmitting the measurement to the instrument, which is used for display.

Neutron Search Probe SN-S

Description

The SN-S is a neutron probe designed for neutron check and neutron surveys.

Because it is lightweight, SN-S can be used prior to any neutron dose measurement, thus, preventing the systematic use of a heavy neutron dose instrument.

The SN-S is compatible with all CSP family instruments, including CSP-COM. Therefore, the SN-S can also be used as a remote sensor for neutrons, in combination with CSP-COM. A wall mount system is provided with the probe to ease this application.

The SN-S exceeds ANSI N42.34 neutron detection specifications. Effectively, the user can be warned within two seconds of being exposed to an un-moderated 252Cf source emitting about 20 000 n/s, at a distance of 25 cm. The false alarm rate in the presence of a strong gamma source must be no more than once per hour.

With high voltage and digitization of the data occurring in the probe rather than the instrument, measurement quality is no longer dependent on external device quality (cable, host instrument). Moreover, a CSP is using a serial protocol to communicate with the host that can be an instrument or a PC.

Calibration and QA measurements can be performed directly with the probe, without even using an instrument, by connecting the probe to a computer with CANBERRA Smart Probe Software (CSPS™), allowing your instruments to remain deployed in the field.

Once calibrated, SN-S is ready to be used as a 'plug and play' probe to start a QA measurement in c/s.

SN-S is able to store up to 1000 data points from a data-logging procedure handled via the host instrument. These data are: Index, date/time, measurement value, selected unit and counting time.

SN-S can be upgraded (probe's firmware) via CSPS, with the USB – PC cable and a PC.

CANBERRA Smart Probe Benefits Health physics users have to select an appropriate probe for their application, but they prefer to learn only one instrument. Therefore, with the Colibri, Radiagem, Avior (or MIP10 Digital), they can invest in one training session but still select from a large variety of probes to focus on a specific measurement.

All CANBERRA Smart Probes can be "hot-plugged" to a Colibri, Radiagem or Avior CSP survey meter without the need to power down the instrument. All measurement components (high voltage, amplifier, discriminator and signal processing) are located in the probe. Therefore each probe is separately calibrated and set up to match a dedicated application, and all probes are compatible with any CSP survey meter without further specific setup required.
