Multi-Element Silicon Drift Detectors

For a variety of beamline applications, Mirion offers a standard array configuration with 7 elements of 80 mm² active area, as well as customizable systems.

7-Element SDD Array

Description:

The X-PIPS Detector is a spectroscopy sub-system sensitive to X-rays and low-energy gamma rays. It comprises a hermetically sealed silicon drift detector (SDD) array with a low noise CMOS reset type preamplifier and Peltier cooler, a HV bias supply and a temperature controller. The detector elements and CMOS preamplifiers are cooled and temperature regulated, ensuring stable operation in changing environmental conditions. The Beryllium entrance window is 1 mil (25 µm) thick.

The preamplifiers have a fast reset mechanism providing short dead time and excellent count rate performance. The reset can be synchronous or asynchronous (user selectable).

The high performance SDD combined with a CMOS preamplifier provides very fast and low noise response, which results in extremely good energy resolution with fast peaking times. The signal rise time is well below 50 ns which makes for excellent energy resolution at high count rates.

The energy resolution is guaranteed within an ambient temperature range of +10 °C to + 30 °C with the default factory settings.

The X-PIPS Detector is equipped with a multilayer collimator providing excellent peak to background ratios and few spurious peaks.

The Peltier cooled detector assembly has a cool down time of just a few minutes.
